Galena/Jo Daviess County Hist. Society

See exhibits on early lead mining, steamboating, the Civil War years and a collection of 19th-century art that includes Thomas Nast's "Peace in the Union", depicting Lee's surrender to Ulysses S. Grant at Appomatox. Housed in an 1858 Italianete mansion, this museum is a good place to start your visit to Galena.

Tour time: 30-60 minutes. Open daily 9am-4:30pm, except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.
